Alien Registration Deadline Calculator: Your 90-Day Date in Korea
Foreign resident registration deadline calculator
Estimate only. Dates are worked out in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
Rule used: HiKorea says foreigners staying more than 90 days must register within 90 days of entry. HiKorea does not say whether the entry day itself counts, so two dates are shown: counting the entry day as day 1 (the earlier, safer date) and counting from the day after entry (the later date). Plan around the earlier one.
Short answer: HiKorea says foreigners who plan to stay in Korea more than 90 days must register “within 90 days of entry”. Pick your entry date above and the calculator shows the last day under two readings, plus the days left from today. HiKorea does not say whether the entry day counts, so plan around the earlier date and confirm with the immigration office.
What HiKorea says
The Ministry of Justice’s HiKorea page on Foreign Resident Registration says registration applies to foreigners who intend to stay more than 90 days after entry, and that the deadline is within 90 days of entry. If you are granted a status of stay, or approved for a change of status after arriving, the page says to register immediately after you are notified of the new status. Its example is a person who applies for a status change after five months: registration is due at the time of application, not 90 days later.
HiKorea’s documents page was also checked for a description of how the 90 days are counted. It does not give one. So there is no official statement on the page about whether day 1 is the entry day or the day after.
How the calculator counts
Dates are handled as plain calendar dates in UTC, so your time zone or daylight saving cannot shift the result by a day. The two readings are:
| Reading | Last day if you entered on 1 March | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Entry day counted as day 1 (safer) | 29 May | Entry date + 89 days |
| Counted from the day after entry | 30 May | Entry date + 90 days |
The earlier date is the one to plan around. If an immigration officer says a different date applies to you, follow the officer. The days remaining are computed from your device’s current date.
When the countdown does not apply
- Status granted or changed after entry: HiKorea says to register immediately once you are notified. The calculator shows this message instead of a 90-day date.
- Staying 90 days or less: the rule covers people who plan to stay more than 90 days.
- Exempt groups: HiKorea lists holders of Diplomacy (A-1), Official business (A-2) and Agreement (A-3) status and their family members, people carrying out important national-security duties and others the Minister of Justice deems exempt, and Canadians staying under six months in certain statuses (D-1, D-6, F-1, F-3 or G-1).
Booking and deadlines
A HiKorea reservation is an appointment, not the filing. The reservation page says that if no slot is open before your deadline you should go to the immigration office that has jurisdiction before the period ends. That is why it is wise to book as soon as you arrive rather than near the last day. Required documents depend on your visa status, and the HiKorea documents page lists them by status.
Worked examples
| Entry date | Earlier date (entry + 89 days) | Later date (entry + 90 days) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 March | 29 May | 30 May |
| 15 September | 13 December | 14 December |
| 20 December | 19 March (next year) | 20 March (next year) |
The December row crosses a year end, and the calculator handles that the same way as any other date. Leap days are handled because the arithmetic runs on real calendar days.
What to do if the date is close or has passed
If the earlier date is only a few days away, do not wait for the later reading. Book the earliest HiKorea slot, or go to the immigration office with jurisdiction over your address. If the deadline has passed, HiKorea’s pages that checked do not describe a grace period or a penalty amount, so this guide cannot quote either. Contact the immigration office or the 1345 Immigration Contact Center for your own case and bring your passport.
Limits of this tool
It uses one date input and a fixed 90-day period. It cannot know your visa category, whether an exemption applies, whether you have left and re-entered, or whether a public holiday or an office closure affects your appointment. This guide did not verify any holiday rule for deadlines, so the calculator does not apply one.
Quick checklist
- Did I enter my actual date of entry from my passport stamp or entry record?
- Did I plan around the earlier date?
- Did I book a HiKorea slot well before it?
- Do I have my passport, form, photo, proof of address and fee ready?
- If my status changed after arrival, did I register right away?
This tool gives an estimate, not legal or immigration advice. Confirm your deadline with HiKorea, your immigration office or the 1345 Immigration Contact Center.
